SCUBA Diving Fitness

But before a student can actually gear up, dip into the water and start learning about scuba diving, a student must first and foremost be physically fit for scuba diving. Now, don’t worry because you don’t have to be as fit as an Olympic athlete to dive. You just need to be in good overall health. It is also recommended that you undergo a general physical check-up from your doctor and see if they will give you the go-ahead.

SCUBA Course

Once you’ve been cleared by your doctor, then it’s finally take an introductory SCUBA course. These courses are taught in all dive centers and the rates of each program differ from one dive center from another. These courses can last from half a day to a week; depending on the type of course you take. For those who are not yet decided and still want to test the waters – no pun intended – then you can take half day trial courses that will are conducted within swimming pools. These trial courses, however, do not fully certify you to go diving in open water – which is the main reasons people go diving, but they will give you an idea of how it feels to breathe underwater and to wear all the SCUBA equipment.

PADI SCUBA Diving Certifications

For more serious divers, you can take the PADI Open Water certification courses. This is the most basic SCUBA program anyone can take when learning to dive. It teaches the diver the basic skills and knowledge needed for SCUBA diving. These courses take 3 days or more and provide the student with a certificate that allows them to dive in waters reaching depths of 60 feet or 18 meters. Once they’ve obtained this certificate, a diver may also opt to take additional courses that would allow them to learn more advanced diving techniques. These programs include Advanced Open Water, rescue diver, technical diving, commercial diving, military diving, divemaster, and instructor. It will take more time and dedication to complete these certificates, but it provides you the skills needed for more exciting dives and even for a diving career.

SCUBA Gear

Now that you have learned the basics of diving, then it’s time to get your own gear. This is not a big requirement in diving, since a lot of dive centers allow you to rent their equipment but some divers prefer to get their own equipment such as masks, snorkels, and fins for their dives, because they can be sure the equipment will fit them properly. Learning how to choose the best equipment for you depends on your preference and is also taught in dive centers.

There are many places where you can learn to dive in the Maldives.  Here is a list of PADI-certified dive centres.
