Leopard Moray Eel Appearance

Seeing a Leopard Moray Eel while you are scuba diving in the ocean is like seeing a  Leopard when on safari in Africa.  Just like the feline Leopard, a Leopard Moray Eel has a very distinctive spotted pattern across its body.  The Leopard Moray Eel is a little smaller than most other Morays, reaching lengths of around three feet as a maximum.

Leopard Moray Eel Habitat

The Leopard Moray Eel can be found throughout the Indo-Pacific Ocean, where it revels in the warm waters.  The Leopard Moray Eel can be found living anywhere between 3 and 200 feet, usually hiding in crevices in the coral reefs and behind rocks.

Leopard Moray Eel Behaviour

The Leopard Moray Eel is a shy creature, which is why he likes to live in small spaces and between rocks.  When it’s time to eat, the Leopard Moray Eel feasts mainly on fish, octopus and crustaceans.  Their diet is very similar to that of all other Moray Eels.  The Leopard Moray Eel has a very poor sense of sight, so he relies on his sense of smell to obtain food.  They usually hunt at night time, so scent is even more important for the Moray.

Leopard Moray Eels in the Maldives

The Maldives, one of the world’s premier diving destinations, is home to many Moray Eels, including the Leopard Moray Eel.  The Leopard Moray is a favourite among Moray Eel fans because of its beautiful markings.  While some Moray Eels are not very attractive to look at, the Leopard Moray is a dazzling animal.  There are many of them in the Maldives, so scuba divers here are in with a good chance of seeing one on their next Maldives Scuba Diving Holiday.
