Maldives Flag

Since her construction in 2003, Carina has been one of the most successful liveaboards in the Maldives, with a large percentage of her guests returning each year.  Carina is an attractive ship, just over 100 feet long with capacity for 24 people throughout 10 cabins. 4 of the cabins have twin beds, making this a great option for individuals and groups.  A really great idea is to get a group of 20 of your avid scuba diver friends and take over the whole boat for the scuba adventure of a lifetime.  Trips on Carina start from just USD 175 per night, which includes all meals and dives.

Carina Liveaboard Diving

 Carina Liveaboard

Whale Shark Maldives

Scuba diving safaris aboard the Carina liveaboard range from 7 to 14 days, during which time, two to three dives are held daily, as well as one night dive a week, so in a 14-day trip you would be getting 35 dives.  You need to have your PADI Open Water certification to join a dive on Carina, but there are PADI-certified dive instructors on board, if you choose to further your scuba education while on your trip.  What you see under water and the dive sites you visit during the safari vary according to the time of year.  However, the seasoned and experienced crew are extremely familiar with all the islands and atolls of the Maldives and will do their best to ensure you see the most marine life possible.  Typically, Carina’s guests can expect to see Whale Sharks, Manta Rays, Eagle Rays, large pelagic species, Moray Eels, Turtles, Dolphins and all kinds of invertebrates and coral formations.  There is also the opportunity to do a wreck dive during most safaris.  Some dive sites are visited depending on the experience of the divers.  The currents in the Maldives can be extremely strong, so several dive sites are suitable only for advanced divers.  Before all dives on Carina, the instructors and dive masters hold detailed briefings about the dive sites, explaining any intricacies, maps and other points of interest.

Carina’s ten cabins are all air-conditioned and all have a hot-water, en-suite bathroom.  On board, guests will find internet access, a full bar and a saloon with TV and DVD player for indoor relaxation.  Out on the deck, guests have access to fishing gear, which is often used to trawl for tuna that can be served up fresh, sashimi-style!  Dive equipment can be hired, or you can bring your own (rental is not included in the trip price), and this is all kept onboard the 60ft dive Dhoni that travels alongside Carina.  All dives are taken from the Dhoni, and all equipment is kept onboard the Dhoni, allowing guests more space and comfort on Carina.  Full first aid equipment, including diver’s oxygen as well as state-of-the-art navigation equipment are also found on Carina.

Carina Liveaboard Activities

When you are not scuba diving on Carina, there are plenty of other things to do, from kicking back on the deck and catching some rays, to fishing, or just watching a movie in the comfortable saloon.  Carina also offers a trip to Male for all guests, a barbecue on one of the many island’s beaches in the Maldives and visits to island communities.

Carina Liveaboard Food and Service

The per-night price on Carina (from USD 175) is an all-inclusive price, which includes three full meals a day and some afternoon snacks.  Non-alcoholic drinks and fresh, purified water are also included.  The food is delicious, offering a combination of Western and Asian culinary influences, often with the freshest fish you can imagine.  Service is extremely personal and the crew are very knowledgeable about the islands of the Maldives and the underwater marine life.
