Maldives to Become Carbon Neutral Earlier Than Expected
Carbon Neutral Goal to be Accomplished Early in the Maldives
According to the President of the Maldives, Mr. Mohammed Nasheed, the island nation could become carbon neutral before the year 2020, which was the original target date.
Maldives Carbon Neutrality Attained by Investment in Renewable Energy
Investments in renewable energy sources, including wind and solar energy, have been promoted by the Maldivian Government as a way to reach carbon neutral status as soon as possible. A wind farm project launched on Monday November 2, is expected to cut carbon emissions of the entire country by one fifth, since it will provide for around 40% of the country’s energy requirements.
Maldives Carbon Neutral Within 10 Years
The Maldives had previously set a target for achieving the carbon neutral status in the year 2020, but they now seem to be ahead of schedule.
