Nurse Sharks
Nurse Sharks
The nurse shark is a typically non-aggressive shark which is usually found at very shallow depths, and as such is commonly spotted by scuba divers. They are nocturnal animals, and at night they swim around the ocean alone, looking for prey – usually crustaceans, fish and mollusks. By day, nurse sharks gather in groups and hang out under rocks. A fully-grown nurse shark will reach about 15 feet in length. The nurse shark is found in tropical habitats, usually close to the coral reef or mangrove. The shark doesn’t usually pose any threat to humans, and they are not a commonly-hunted shark, although their slow behaviour makes them easy to catch. In the Maldives, nurse sharks are commonly spotted at Ifuruu Kandu Thila, Ellaidhoo Thila, Medhu Thin Thila and Bathala Thila.
