Scuba Diving World Record set in Indonesia
Mass Scuba Diving Record set in Jakarta, Indonesia
On August 17, 2009, it was confirmed that a new scuba diving record had been set for the largest number of scuba divers participating in one scuba dive.
Previous Scuba Diving Record
The previous world record was set in the Maldives in 2006, with a grand total of 958 scuba divers descending into the water at the same time.
New Scuba Diving Record
The new record attempt was presided over by a representative of Guiness, thus making it an official Guiness World Record. A total of 2,562 scuba divers participated in the World Record in North Sulawesi as part of a special fundraising event to commemorate Indonesia’s Independence. Of the divers, 2,486 were from Indonesia and the remaining 76 from other countries.
Other Scuba Diving Records
Other scuba diving world records of interest include the deepest scuba dive recently set by Nuno Gomes for his 318 metre scuba dive and the longest scuba dive record which is currently held by Jerry Hall for his 94 hour dive. Declan and Paul Devane hope to beat this record in October when they attempt the world record in Co. Galway.
