The Halaveli Wreck
The Halaveli Wreck was intentionally sunk by the Halaveli Dive School in 1991 to promote scuba diving in the area
Location: North Ari Atoll, Medhu-Uthuru Province, Maldives
Type of Diving: Wreck
Experience: Intermediate
Maximum Depth: 28 meters
Average Visibility: 18 meters
Currents: Light
Access: Boat
Marine Life: Groupers, Rays, Moray Eels, Banner Fish, Bat Fish, Humphead Wrasse, Stingrays
Definition: The wreck is located at a depth of 28m and sits in an upright position, the deck is at 22m and the mast stretches up to a depth of 12m. The wreck lies 50m off the reef, but the reef itself is quite damaged and the diver is much better served spending the dive exploring the wreck itself. The large stingrays that hover around the wreck are a favorite as they are quite friendly and curious; providing the diver with an ‘in-your-face’ experience with the rays. Moray eels are found around the structure as are schools of bat fish, banner fish and groupers. The usual humphead wrasse can be found during the dive.
